چکیده

The High Rate Baseband Multi-Modulator (HRBM) ASIC is being developed to provide High-Speed Bandwidth Efficient Modulations to NASA missions. Bandwidth efficiencies from 2.0 bits/symbol/Hz to 2.75 bits/symbol/Hz are selectable from three CCSDS modulations: Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK), Filter Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (Filtered-OQSK) and 8-Phase Shift Keying Trellis Coded Modulation (8-PSK TCM). An FPGA version of the HRBM is developed first to verify the individual modulation designs and characterize timing and performance issues involved with digital baseband modulation synthesis. A Finite Input Response (FIR) filter is included to provided baseband pulse shaping to reduce out-of-band spectral emissions. This is filter is programmable and can be tailored to meet system requirements. The ASIC is targeted to provide up to 600 Mbps throughput and will provide serial as well as parallel input. This paper provides an overview of the technology development and current status.

Quadrature delta sigma modular design with adjustable bandwidth and center frequency

In this paper, a flexible Continuous time (CT) feedforward (FF) quadrature delta sigma modulator (QDSM) with variable bandwidth (BW) is proposed. The modulator BW and center frequency (fc) are variable which can be adjusted with two separate parameters. The modulator signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) will be optimized by these parameters at every center frequency and bandwidth. The modulator BW is ch...

A Reconfigurable Spectrally Efficient FDM Baseband Modulator

Spectrally Efficient FDM (SEFDM) systems employ non-orthogonal overlapped carriers to improve spectral efficiency for future communication systems. One of the challenges for SEFDM systems is to demonstrate efficient hardware implementations for transmitters and receivers. This paper presents the first VLSI digital baseband transmitter architecture for SEFDM. The transmitter is reconfigurable be...

A self-homodyne photonic receiver for transmitted carrier wireless links isdemonstrated. The key innovations in this photonic RF-receiver are the design andimplementation of a resonant LiNbO3 microdisk electro-optic modulator and novelRF down-conversion techniques that exploit the sensitivity of the microdisk forefficient RF down-conversion in the optical domain. By careful RF a...

Wideband Phase-Locked Angular Modulator

A phase-locked loop (PLL) angular modulator scheme has been proposed which has the characteristics of wideband modulation frequency response. The modulator design is independent of the PLL closed-loop transfer function H(s), thereby allowing independent optimization of the loop's parameters as well as the modulator's parameters. A phase modulator implementing the proposed scheme was built to ph...

A 250-kHz 94-dB Double-Sampling Modulation A/D Converter With a Modified Noise Transfer Function

This paper presents a high-order double-sampling single-loop modulation analog-to-digital (A/D) converter. The important problem of noise folding in double-sampling circuits is solved here at the architectural level by placing one of the zeros in the modulator’s noise transfer function at half the sampling frequency instead of in the baseband. The resulting modulator is of fifth order but has t...
